Fall/Spring Update

This message to all faculty and staff has been approved by Dr. Sally McRorie, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Kyle Clark, Vice President for Finance and Administration.

As we approach Fall Break, we wanted to take the opportunity to provide an update regarding the remaining Fall semester and upcoming Spring semester. Following the Thanksgiving Holiday and Fall Break, face-to-face instruction will cease, and students will move to fully remote instruction. Spring semester planning is still under way, and the University is committed to offering as many face-to-face classes as possible while maintaining the safety of students, faculty, and staff. The first three days of the Spring semester will be taught remotely.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and Staff who are currently working on campus, either full-time or partially, will not be impacted by students moving to fully remote instruction after Thanksgiving Break. The University remains open and operational, and current staffing levels should continue through the end of Fall semester. As we plan for the Spring semester and the increase in students on campus, it is likely that the faculty and staff footprint on campus will simultaneously increase to meet the support needs of our students. Departments should evaluate and determine what, if any, changes need to be made to their current on-campus staffing levels.

OPS Student Workers

Because of the move to remote instruction after Thanksgiving Break, OPS student workers are not required to return to campus to perform their duties. However, if work is available and needed, students may voluntarily stay on campus and continue their duties, or departments may offer remote work to students who are not returning to campus. Departments are encouraged to work with students to determine options that meet the academic needs of students and the business needs of the department.

General Updates

Employee international and domestic business-related travel remains restricted. Personal international travel, except for cruises, will no longer require a 14-day self-quarantine unless the employee presents COVID-19 symptoms upon return from travel.

There will be no changes to the following:

  • The Hiring Freeze remains in effect for all non-C&G funded salaried positions with the exception of 9-month faculty. OPS appointments and C&G funded positions are exempt from the hiring freeze.
