Air Purifiers for Classroom and Office Spaces

This message to all faculty and staff has been approved by Kyle Clark, Vice President for Finance and Administration.

Florida State University continues to do everything in its power to provide a safe environment for all, and we are continuing to address concerns by enhancing the different methods we are using to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Last year, FSU Facilities installed high efficiency particulate air filters in the HVAC air filtration systems throughout campus, including most of our classrooms. These MERV-13, high efficiency filters use mechanical and electrostatic filtration and have demonstrated to protect against water droplets and many aerosol particles released from coughing or sneezing. Facilities changes the filters at least once every six months and changed all of the filters prior to the start of the Fall Semester.

President McCullough has requested we continue to enhance our efforts by ordering additional portable HEPA filter air purifiers for classroom and teaching lab spaces. We anticipate these will be deployed in spaces around campus starting next week, however there could be delays due to supply chain challenges caused by Hurricane Ida. Finance and Administration is working directly with Academic Affairs for a complete distribution list of classrooms.

In addition, you may also request air purifiers for your shared campus office and/or high traffic departmental spaces.  To do so, please order utilizing the “Air Purifiers – FSU WAREHOUSE” form located in SpearMart. Specific information is located at https://procurement.fsu.edu/.

The University is providing these items at no cost to departments on a limited supply basis, and they should be deployed in high-traffic areas and public spaces. Requisitioners will be required to list the names of the individuals that will be utilizing these items for office use, along with acknowledging the “Attractive Item Additions” statement. Individual Office air purifiers will be available for pick-up Saturday, Sept. 4, or Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. Requisitioners may request them for their department.  Additional details regarding equipment pick-up will be distributed later this week.

As a reminder, we continue to expect all members of the FSU community to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by wearing masks and getting vaccinated. Thanks for your cooperation and doing your part to ensure a safe and successful fall semester.
