Florida State University undergraduates will present their creative skills and research findings from the past year at the 2019 President’s Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence.

“The President’s Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence is a celebration of the summer research and creative work undertaken by our IDEA Grant and Tech Fellow award recipients under the mentorship of some of the FSU’s most distinguished faculty,” said Latika Young, director of the Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement. “The event features a range of research and creative work that is relevant and exciting for FSU and the wider Tallahassee community, and we welcome all to come join us in this celebration.”

Topics this year range from the creation of environmentally friendly gas-filled voltage cables, the representation of historical hunting culture in Japanese museums, the value of virtual technology in autism intervention, and a better understanding of how Latinas navigate the tech startup industry, among many others. The showcase also features video documentary, creative writing and other visual art pieces.

The program will include opening remarks from President John Thrasher, Student Government President Evan Steinberg and Dean of Undergraduate Studies Karen Laughlin.

The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Augustus B. Turnbull III Conference Center from 5:30 – 7:30 P.M.

The event is sponsored by the Office of the President. The students’ research is supported by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement. Eligible students also received financial support through IDEA grants, the Tech Fellows program and iGEM summer awards. These grants are funded through the generosity of a variety of FSU donors. A full list is available in the event program.
