COVID-19 Quarantine/Isolation Leave Guidance

This message to all faculty and staff has been approved by Renisha Gibbs, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Finance & Administration Chief of Staff.

As the university resumes regular, on-campus operations, we want to ensure employees have clear guidance on leave options should they need to quarantine or isolate due to COVID-19 exposure. These options provide increased flexibility through October 1, 2021.

Reminder to Self-Report
Employees must continue to self-report all positive COVID test results and close contact with a positive individual to FSU for timeliness of response and follow-up testing at FSU’s test center if necessary. Students, faculty and staff can use the Daily Wellness Check at my.fsu.edu or MyFSU app to submit their information confidentially. They can also report via email by submitting their information to COVID19@fsu.edu.

Employee Quarantine/Isolation
Employees required to quarantine or isolate under the official direction of the Florida Department of Health or Secure Assessment for FSU Exposure Response (SAFER) Team may telework for the duration of the quarantine/isolation period if their position is conducive to telework and their supervisor approves. If an employee is unable to work because they do not feel well or telework is not available, they should use their accrued sick and annual leave.

School/Daycare Required Quarantine
If an employee’s child is required to quarantine or isolate from school or daycare due to COVID-19 exposure, the employee will be permitted to work from home while providing care if telework is available and the employee has supervisor approval. Documentation of the school closure or mandatory quarantine should be required.  If telework is not available, the employee will be permitted to use their accrued sick and annual leave.

COVID-19 Pool Leave
In either case outlined above, salaried employees may request COVID-19 pool leave if these situations apply:
1.) They are unable to telework, and
2.) They have exhausted all available leave.

Requests for COVID-19 pool leave can be sent to HR-COVID19@fsu.edu. This paid leave will become effective August 3, 2021, and be limited to up 80 hours based on full-time equivalency, regardless of a subsequent requirement to quarantine/isolate. HR will determine if the request is approved and notify the employee’s department with timekeeping instructions. This leave pool is limited and will cease when the designated funding is no longer available. Employees who are able to telework but decline to do so are not eligible to receive COVID-19-related pool leave.
