A Message from Dr. Amy Hecht, Vice President for Student Affairs: Travel & Event Restriction Change

This message to all students has been approved by Dr. Amy Hecht, Vice President for Student Affairs.

Dear Students,

I know how challenging this school year has been and I’m appreciative of your patience and willingness to keep our community safe. As I’ve shared recently, I am committed to periodically reviewing the Return to Student Life Guide and making revisions as appropriate. As we begin to approach the end of the Spring semester, I am pleased to announce the following changes:

  • Student organizations and groups will be permitted to resume approved travel throughout the state of Florida when COVID-19 mitigation strategies are in place and the travel has been approved in advance by the Vice President for Student Affairs or my designee.
  • Student organizations will be permitted to host approved events with alcohol when the University’s alcohol policy and COVID-19 mitigation strategies are in place (including capacity limitations of no more than 100 attendees).

These changes will be effective Thursday, April 1, 2021 unless there is an unforeseen COVID-19 issue that changes the state’s current standing in this pandemic.

I know that with these changes, students will continue to exercise caution and abide by the COVID-19 protocols that are in place, such as wearing masks and social distancing. The health and safety of our community both on and off campus remains a shared responsibility for all involved.

More details will be forthcoming regarding mitigation strategies for travel and events with alcohol, as well as the process to receive the necessary approvals.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.

Sincerely,

Amy Hecht, Ed.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
