A Message from President John Thrasher

This message to all students has been approved by FSU President John Thrasher.

Dear Students,

It has been more than two months since campus life was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and I know you all are eager to return to the university.

As we head into the Memorial Day weekend with more people venturing out and different aspects of society reopening, I am concerned that social distancing guidelines are not being taken seriously. I understand you are excited to see your friends and visit local restaurants and businesses; however, when you do, I urge you to respect and closely follow guidance from public health officials.

Many people who have contracted the virus do not have symptoms or know they have it. That’s why I’m asking you to be thoughtful and careful in your actions and to live the values we teach at Florida State. You may not think you are at risk, but you may be putting someone else at risk. If you think of others first and do your part, it will create a safer environment for all.

Remember, the CDC recommends simple ways you can protect yourself, your fellow students and other members of the campus community:

  • Practice social distancing. If you are around other people, keep 6 feet between you when possible. Avoid hugs, handshakes, large gatherings and close quarters.
  • Do not gather in groups of 10 or more.
  • Wear a cloth face cover in public. Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others and out in public, such as at the grocery store.
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth, and cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Stay home if you have a respiratory illness or fever.
  • Clean and disinfect “high-touch” surfaces daily, such as cell phones.

I hope we can all return to campus before too long. In the meantime, please take care of yourself and be considerate of others.

Sincerely,

President John Thrasher
