Florida State University will honor the legacy of the late Martin Luther King Jr. during its 32nd Annual MLK Week from Monday, Jan. 13, through Tuesday, Jan. 21. The weeklong celebration will include events inspired by the theme “Moving Forward: Vision, Voice, Vote.”
The goal of the week is to bring the FSU and Tallahassee communities together to reflect on the past and challenge one another to engage in creating social justice and advocating for the civil rights of all.
The week will conclude with “An Evening with Karamo Brown” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. Brown is a FAMU alumnus and stars on the show “Queer Eye.”
All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
Monday, Jan. 13
In Mid-Sentence, 6 p.m., University Ballrooms
The six identity-based Student Government Association agencies will celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Students are welcome to participate in fun activities, free food, music and fellowship, while reflecting on moving forward together.
Tuesday, Jan. 14
“Harriet” Screening, 6 p.m., Student Life Cinema
From her escape from slavery to the dangerous missions she led to liberate hundreds of slaves through the Underground Railroad, “Harriet” tells the story of the heroic abolitionist Harriet Tubman. The film will also be shown at 7 and 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Market Wednesday MLK Birthday Celebration, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Moore Auditorium Courtyard
The MLK Week Celebration committee, Student Organizations & Involvement and the SOAR Board will sponsor a birthday celebration highlighting the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The celebration will include opportunities for attendees to define their vision, voice and opinion and register to vote.

Grove Museum: A Dialogue, 5:30 p.m., Grove Museum, 902 N. Monroe St.
Tallahassee has a rich history of activism and social justice engagement from the civil rights movement through present day. The MLK Week Celebration committee invites the public to engage in a dialogue about the local community and people who were at the forefront of creating change during the civil rights movement. (Note: This event is full).
MLK Week Celebratory Brain Bowl, 6 p.m., Black Student Union House
The Black Alumni Association and the Black Faculty & Staff Network at Florida State University invites everyone to test their knowledge on the civil rights movement, MLK’s legacy, black history, current events and other subjects of interest concerning advocacy and social justice. Light refreshments will be served.

National Memorial for Peace and Justice Museum, Alabama turnaround trip, 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Florida State University Housing will sponsor a free trip to The National Monument for Peace and Justice and the Legacy Museum located in Montgomery, Alabama. The museum and monument are an opportunity to learn about the history of racial injustice and discover “truth and reconciliation that leads to real solutions to contemporary problems.” To join, RSVP here. An Evening with Karamo Brown, 7 p.m., Ruby Diamond Concert Hall
The Golden Tribe Lecture Series presents Karamo Brown as the keynote speaker for the 32nd annual MLK Week Celebration. The Queer Eye star and FAMU alumnus will talk about his experiences, MLK’s legacy and more. Admission is free for all guests, with priority entry for FSU students with a valid I.D.
