The Florida State University College of Nursing is partnering with the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI) to provide professional education on responsible artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing. This initiative aims to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving landscape of AI-driven health care solutions ethically and effectively.
“The integration of AI in health care presents both opportunities and challenges,” said Jing Wang, dean of the FSU College of Nursing. “Our partnership with CHAI will help us provide guidance to better ensure nurses are prepared to leverage these tools responsibly while improving patient outcomes.”
As AI continues to transform the health care industry, responsible implementation is critical to maintaining safety and ensuring patient-centered care. The college’s executive and professional education program, developed in collaboration with CHAI, will offer cutting-edge insights into best practices, regulatory considerations and real-world applications of AI in clinical and administrative settings.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with the FSU College of Nursing to provide educational opportunities that prioritize responsible AI,” said Dr. Brian Anderson, president and CEO of CHAI. “Nurses play a pivotal role in caring for patients and must be a part of the conversation when it comes to AI. I look forward to working with these health care professionals to help advance the safe and effective use of AI.”
CHAI was started by clinicians with a mission to build the broadest possible consensus across the health ecosystem to help ensure health AI is trusted, secure and safe. Today, CHAI’s membership includes nearly 3,000 organizations, including health systems, patient advocacy groups, academia and a wide range of industry start-ups and incumbents. CHAI is committed to bringing people together and fostering dialogue to reach consensus. By collaborating with the FSU College of Nursing, CHAI aims to bridge the gap between AI technology and practical health care applications, empowering nurse leaders with actionable knowledge.
The executive and professional education program is set to launch by mid-2025, with online offerings developed by experts from academia, industry and health care systems. The initiative is part of the FSU College of Nursing’s broader commitment to integrating emerging technologies into nursing education and practice. In 2024, the college launched the nation’s first MSN in AI Applications in Health Care and the Nursing and AI Innovation Consortium, aimed at addressing the gap in AI and nursing collaborations.
