Renowned nurse innovator joins FSU College of Nursing to launch nation’s first nursing and AI innnovation consortium

Rebecca Love, renowned entrepreneur, author and nursing innovator, joins Florida State University’s College of Nursing to lead the Nursing and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Consortium.

Celebrated entrepreneur, author and nursing innovator Rebecca Love is joining Florida State University’s College of Nursing to create the Nursing and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Consortium.

This first-of-its-kind program will be housed within the college’s Institute on Digital Health and Innovation and empower the new MSN in AI, the nation’s first master’s nursing program on AI in health care.

Love will serve as a visiting professor and entrepreneur-in-residence. Her background in entrepreneurship and nursing positions has prepared her to lead the college’s new initiatives in AI and nursing.

“Rebecca is very familiar with being the first at many things,” said College of Nursing Dean Jing Wang. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with our students, the community, and ultimately, the nation.”

Love founded the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Leaders; was the first nurse to deliver a TED Talk and has been a pioneer in addressing the national nursing shortage crisis.

The new Nursing and AI Innovation Consortium will be co-directed by Love, Wang and Dr. Lisa Hightow-Weidman, Distinguished and Endowed McKenzie Professor in the college and founding director of the Institute on Digital Health and Innovation (IDHI).

Hightow-Weidman, a renowned digital health researcher, leads over $100 million in NIH-funded research and recently served on the organizing committee of the Academic Medical Education’s AI in Infectious Disease Workshop. Wang is a pioneering nurse leader in digital health and AI, serving on the AI and Data Science Workgroup at the National Institute of Nursing Research and co-leading the Direct-to-Consumer Workstream at the Coalition for Health AI (CHAITM), a national network aiming to develop and promote responsible AI standards in health care to ensure high-quality, trustworthy and equitable AI applications. Each brings a unique leadership perspective in making the consortium the first of its kind to bring together emerging technologies with health care to address critical issues.

This new initiative will fill the gaps in AI and nursing by creating a nurse-driven, research-backed and industry-supported AI solution designed to enhance nursing practice and patient care in a real-world setting.

“This new initiative will fill the gaps in AI and nursing by creating a nurse-driven, research-backed and industry-supported AI solution designed to enhance nursing practice and patient care in a real-world setting,” Love said.

As part of IDHI, Love will integrate academic research and industry innovation to develop nursing-centered AI tools, clinical workflow integration and patient care optimization.

“AI and digital health are rapidly growing areas, and we are leading the nation in it,” Hightow-Weidman said. “Rebecca’s first hand experience will provide our students with real-world scenarios and shine a spotlight on potential partnerships within the industry. I’m excited to see what we will achieve together.”

Love, a regular contributor to the Forbes Business Council, has been featured in various publications and networks, including BBC, Fortune, Becker’s, AXIOS, STAT, Forbes Chief Healthcare Magazine and ABC News.
