Florida State University researcher Roxanne Hughes set out to understand why so many undergraduate women abandon math and science majors compared to men. Hughes studied 26 FSU female undergraduate students and found that those who did stick to their STEM majors shared three key things in common: positive family support, strong peer networks and the opportunity to do undergraduate research.
