In 1948, the Florida State College for Women went coeducational and became the Florida State University we know it as today. Attempting to deal with the great influx of men heading to college on the G.I. Bill, Florida State was forced to house the men at the old Dale Mabry Air Force Base across town. 1952 Florida State University graduate Richard Kurras talks about his life on Florida State’s former "West Campus", and the esprit de corps that developed between him and the other men of barracks 849.
