Mark your calendars for the week of Oct. 2 as Florida State University launches the first-ever FSU Discovery Days, a weeklong celebration of research, creativity and discovery.
Discovery Days has something for everyone — from concerts to “Shark Tank” style pitch competitions — come experience some of what makes FSU so special.
“Florida State University has incredible faculty, students and staff engaged in innovation, creativity and discovery,” said Vice President for Research Stacey Patterson. “This is a celebration of our work while also giving the public a behind the scenes glimpse at university research and creative activity.”
The week kicks off Monday with a public lecture from Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, a neurosurgeon at Mayo Clinic Florida who was featured in the Netflix documentary series “The Surgeon’s Cut.” Quinones-Hinojosa is the father of an FSU alumnus and collaborates with FSU scientists.
Throughout the week, there will be a number of special events that showcase the variety of work done at the university. On Oct. 3, a special concert will feature innovation in the arts and include faculty members from literature, music and math. And on Oct. 4, five FSU researchers will face off for cash prizes of up to $50,000 to help advance their technologies from the lab to the marketplace.
The weeklong celebration will conclude on Oct. 7 with a family friendly event. The university’s physics and art education faculty will join forces to offer families an exciting view of ocean waves, radios and lasers.
