With less than a month left in the 2022 Spring Semester, Florida State University students gathered Thursday, April 14, on Landis Green to enjoy a sweet break during the annual President’s Ice Cream Social.
The event has become a favorite tradition on campus, providing students, faculty and staff an opportunity to build relationships while enjoying ice cream and other refreshments.
President Richard McCollough and First Lady Jai Vartikar, along with other university administrators, handed out an assortment of ice cream treats to students. This was President McCollough’s first President’s Ice Cream Social since becoming the university’s 16th president in August, making the event especially meaningful for him and students.
“I’ve attended FSU since I was an undergraduate student, and the President’s Ice Cream Social has always been a great experience,” said Nacia Goldberg, a second-year graduate student. “It’s really special to see university leaders interact with students one-on-one.”

It took a lot of ice cream to make this event happen — 5,000 treats, to be exact. Students chose from a variety of Häagen-Dazs ice cream flavors and popsicles, which came in handy given the muggy afternoon weather.
Riley Dinklage, a first-year student at FSU, enjoyed ice cream on Landis Green in between classes and expressed her gratitude to FSU for hosting such an event.
“The President’s Ice Cream Social is a great way to cheer students up, especially with finals week right around the corner,” she said.
This year’s President’s Ice Cream Social was sponsored by Asker Distributors, Coca-Cola and Legacy Catering by Aramark.
