Campus namings panel to hold meeting Nov. 20

The Florida State University President’s Advisory Panel on University Namings and Recognitions will meet Monday, Nov. 20.

The meeting will take place e at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20 at the Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center, room 103.

The 15-member panel of university students, faculty, staff and alumni will examine and review current university policies concerning campus names and markers, including statues and other recognitions. The university’s chief diversity officer, Renisha Gibbs, serves as the panel’s chair.

University President John Thrasher charged the group at its first organizational meeting on Oct. 30 with researching the issues, meeting and engaging with university constituencies to seek input, determining criteria for appropriate naming policies and making any other recommendations deemed necessary.

The panel’s next meeting will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13.
