Professor David E. Landau has been appointed the Mason Ladd Professor of Law. The professorship was established by friends and admirers of Mason Ladd, who was the founding dean of the Florida State University College of Law.
Landau, who also serves as associate dean for international programs at the law school, teaches in the area of international law. His writes primarily on comparative constitutional law, with a focus on Latin America. His recent work has concentrated on democratic transitions and the potential risks of constitutional amendment and constitution-making for democracy, as well as on judicial activism on socioeconomic rights issues across the developing world. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard University, where he was a note editor for the Harvard Law Review. He has published in journals including the Harvard International Law Journal, the UC Davis Law Review, the Boston College Law Review, and the Alabama Law Review.
