The Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts presents the fall semester lineup of exhibits and activities for the Tallahassee community.
“We are always excited to welcome students back to campus, and we’re looking forward to hosting the community for the many exhibits, events and activities at MoFA in the next few months,” said Michael Carrasco, interim director for the museum.
MoFA, located at 530 W. Call St., adjacent to the Fine Arts Building, is home to a permanent collection of more than 7,000 artworks and artifacts.
Pregame at MoFA
Football season in Tallahassee is something many look forward to every year, and the team at MoFA is no exception. The museum is open before every home game for tours and family-friendly artmaking activities as part of its Pregame at MoFA program.
Join MoFA Oct. 7, 14, 21 and Nov. 11 and 18 before cheering on the Seminoles. Guests are encouraged to wear their garnet and gold.
“Women at War”
“Women at War” will be on display at MoFA through Oct. 28.
Curated by New York-based art historian Monika Fabijanska, the exhibit has been on loan from the Fridman Gallery in New York since July 13 and was done in collaboration with the Voloshyn Gallery, a prominent art gallery in Kyiv.
The exhibit features recent works from Ukraine, focusing on the current conflict in the country. Several pieces were created immediately after Feb. 24, 2022, when Russia began the recent invasion of Ukraine, while others date from the last eight years.
Currently on a national tour, “Women at War” was listed among the 10 best art exhibitions of 2022 by both The Washington Post and Frieze Magazine.
Artist talk and tour with Monika Fabijanska
MoFA will welcome Monika Fabijanska, the curator of the museum’s current exhibition, “Women at War,” for an artist talk at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28.
Fabijanska will discuss her curatorial practice, which includes groundbreaking exhibitions like “The Un-Heroic Act: Representations of Rape in Contemporary Women’s Art in the U.S.,” “Betsy Damon – Passages: Rites and Rituals,” “ecofeminism(s)” and “Women at War.”
Fabijanska will give a guided tour of the exhibition at 10 a.m. Sept. 29. Space for the tour is limited. To reserve a spot, email mofa@fsu.edu.
Virtual artist talk with Lesia Khomenko
Join MoFA for a virtual talk at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, with Lesia Khomenko, a Ukrainian multidisciplinary artist and program director of the contemporary art course at the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts. Her work is featured in MoFA’s current exhibition, “Women at War.”
This event is free and open to the public. Guests must register online to attend.
“Intertwined: Labor and Technology in Contemporary Textile Art”
This exhibition is on display through Dec. 16 and features a wide variety of textile art, including weaving, embroidery and quilting through animation, film, prints, sculpture, photography and mixed-media work.
“Intertwined,” which has been on loan since Aug. 31, brings together the work of Tawny Chatmon, Jeffrey Gibson, Fabiola Jean-Louis, Ahree Lee, Kate Nartker, Yvonne Osei, Aaron Rothman, Carrie Sieh and Shaheer Zazai to explore themes of labor and agency across media.
“Intertwined’’ is co-curated by FSU alumnae Keidra Daniels Navaroli and Annie Booth, MoFA’s curatorial assistant and visitor engagement coordinator. Exhibit support for “Intertwined” is provided by the Ann M. Stevens Excellence Fund for Textile & Costume Arts, managed by the FSU Foundation.
“MoFA Uncorked: Intertwined”
This is the next installment of MoFA’s Uncorked series Thursday, Oct. 26.
Focusing on MoFA’s latest exhibition, “Intertwined: Labor and Technology in Contemporary Textile Art,” curators will give guests a behind-the-scenes tour.
Tenley Bick, assistant professor of global contemporary art in the Department of Art History, will discuss artist Jeffrey Gibson and the history of the Venice Biennale. Gibson, whose work “PROTECTS THE LAND” is currently on view at MoFA, will represent the United States in the influential art exhibition in Italy next year.
This is a ticketed event, and space is limited. All proceeds will support the College of Fine Arts. The $25 ticket includes an expert-led tour, nibbles and a glass of wine courtesy of Poco Vino.

Artist talk with Yvonne Osei
Ghanaian multidisciplinary artist Yvonne Osei will visit MoFA for an artist talk at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2. Her practice explores the topics of beauty and colorism, the politics of clothing and how global trade and colonialism impact post-colonial West African and Western cultures.
Make it with MoFA: Pocket Weaving
The museum’s popular Make it with MoFA series returns Thursday, Nov. 9 and 16, with a weaving project to celebrate “Intertwined.” Students and other members of the Tallahassee community are invited to visit the museum and create a small piece of art they can take home.
All Hands on Deck: 15 Years of Collaboration at Small Craft Advisory Press
Join MoFA Nov. 30 through May 18 for a retrospective of artist books and collaborative experimentation from FSU’s Small Craft Advisory Press. The museum will host a public opening reception for the exhibit at 6 p.m. Nov. 30.
MoFA Uncorked: Small Craft Advisory Press
Join Department of Art Professor and Founding Director of FSU’s Small Craft Advisory Press Denise Bookwalter Dec. 7 for a special MoFA Uncorked event. Bookwalter will lead guests on a gallery tour and offer insights into the creative process of producing collaborative and unique sculptural books.
The $25 ticket includes light snacks, a glass of wine courtesy of Poco Vino, and a small souvenir to take home. Tickets for this event will be available soon.
