“…when I graduate I will look back on my time here and be eternally grateful for the people that I have met and the lessons that I have learned.”
The great academics, plenty of opportunity to get involved, and a campus culture rich with tradition and values are the three things Christie was looking for when searching for the perfect University. “Florida State was the last school I toured but when I arrived, I knew that this was the school for me. Everyone I met was very friendly and outgoing, and I knew I belonged here.”
Christie has excelled academically as a triple major in finance, applied economics, and risk management/insurance. She has been on the Dean or President’s list every semester, maintaining a 3.9+ GPA. In honor of her academic success, in October 2008 Christie was selected as one of 32 College of Business undergraduates to travel to Omaha to meet with Warren Buffet. As well, Christie has received multiple scholarships including the Joseph A. Gangloff Scholarship, the John Philip Pomeroy Presidential Scholarship, and the Katrina Anne “Katie” Froeschle Memorial Scholarship.
In addition to her academic credentials, Christie has shown a commitment to getting involved in the FSU community through multiple extracurricular activities. As a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society and Insurance Society at Florida State University, Christie has combined her academic interests with a desire to network with fellow College of Business undergraduates. “I have enjoyed being a member of the Insurance Society and Beta Gamma Sigma because they have expanded and enriched my understanding of the business and insurance industries while providing me with many excellent networking and career enhancement opportunities.”
Christie is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, and served as the Fraternity’s treasurer from Fall 2008-Spring 2009. “Alpha Kappa Psi tries to unite students from the college of business while teaching us skills that we can use to both find a job and advance ourselves in the workplace.” Her involvement with Alpha Kappa Psi has led her to participate in Relay for Life and Heart Walk among other things. “I try to assist in any way that I can with these events, including raising money, organization, or morale boosting.”
After graduation, Christie plans to use her experience she has gained through part time jobs and internships to pursue my career in business, which incorporates both Finance and Risk Management/Insurance. After a few years in the work force, she hopes to go back to school to obtain her MBA. “Amazing doesn’t even begin to describe my experience at Florida State. The professors and administrators have been incredibly helpful, and when I graduate I will look back on my time here and be eternally grateful for the people that I have met and the lessons that I have learned.”
