The Florida State University community came together on Thursday to beat the heat and celebrate at the annual President’s Ice Cream Social on Landis Green. This year marked President Richard McCullough’s fourth time hosting this beloved FSU tradition, and it was a sweet treat for all who attended.
“The Ice Cream Social is one of the best events of the year because I get to be out here with the students, enjoying ice cream,” said President McCullough. FSU First Lady Jai Vartikar added, “And with great music!”
Thousands of students, faculty and staff gathered to enjoy delicious ice cream treats, handed out by President McCullough, First Lady Vartikar and other university administrators.
Coley Thompson, a freshman marketing student, shared why he attended the event, saying, “I wanted to come out to the social to hang out with my friends, meet more people and have some ice cream on this hot day. It’s the perfect weather, perfect day to be outside and it’s been an incredible time. I feel like everyone should come out and enjoy this ice cream day.”
The event was filled with outdoor entertainment and games, creating a festive atmosphere that brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

A variety of dairy-free options were offered at two designated tents, with students lining up for popsicles and popcorn.
Department of Interior Architecture and Design student Isabella Aleman spoke to her experience, saying, “I feel like it’s very considerate to have dairy-free options for everyone.”
The event served as a convenient opportunity for students to relax their minds and connect with peers during the long school day.
College of Law student Savannah Bass said, “I’m really enjoying the social because it’s a great study break to get some treats and mingle with people.”
The Ice Cream Social was sponsored by Asker Distributors, Damian’s Ice Cream, Nestlé Ice Cream, Coca-Cola, and Legacy Catering by Aramark. Their support helped make the event a sweet success.
