A Message from President McCullough: Supporting Our Jewish Community

Dear FSU Community,

Many days, I have the joy of writing to you about the numerous successes of Florida State University’s faculty, staff, and students. Today, it is the solemn responsibility of the entire FSU community to use our collective voice to unequivocally condemn the violent and Antisemitic attacks on the citizens of Israel at the hands of terrorists. Florida State University stands staunchly in support of the Israeli people and all those affected by these terrible atrocities.

Like many of you, I have been following the news of the deadly terrorist attacks with horror. These harrowing images of violence are deeply disturbing, and I know this is an especially frightening and difficult time for those in our Jewish community. I would like our Jewish faculty, staff, and students to know I stand with you and that your Florida State University family is here to support you.

Beginning on Sunday, university administrators reached out to our student leaders and organizations to offer counseling and other services for those in need. The FSU Police Department began providing additional patrols around the Jewish Student Union, Hillel, and Chabad, and they will continue to closely monitor events and gatherings. The safety and well-being of everyone in our campus community will always be my highest priority.

On Wednesday, Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht and I will join the Jewish Student Union and other organizations at a vigil intended to provide our community a place to gather in peace to comfort and support one another. I invite you to join us as we grieve those who have lost their lives and share hope for those fighting to survive.

We often say that Florida State is a family. We hope this family can be the source of resilience from which you will draw strength and security.

Sincerely,

Richard McCullough
President
