A Message from President Thrasher: Derek Chauvin verdict

Dear FSU Family,

The past year has been a difficult and tumultuous one for our country. The verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd may begin to offer a small measure of accountability in a particularly painful chapter in America’s history.

I believe that justice was served in this tragic case. However, I know there remain deep and heartfelt concerns about violence, racial equality and justice in America. If you need support, our campus offers an array of support resources to faculty and staff through the Employee Assistance Program and to students through the University Counseling Center.

It is also important as a university community that we continue to reaffirm our values of respect, civility, diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as our commitment to justice and equality.  The President’s Anti-Racism, Equity & Inclusion Task Force is one platform where thoughtful conversations are occurring.

We still have work to do in order to put our values into action. I can assure you FSU remains committed to making long-term changes that promote respect and dignity among our diverse campus community.

Sincerely,

John Thrasher
