Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,
With the new semester now under way, I wanted to take a few moments to recognize the hard work of the faculty and staff and the significant achievements of our student body in 2014. It was a challenging year in many ways, yet the Florida State University family came together to support one another. Our show of unity reminded us, and demonstrated to the nation, that as a university we are strong and together we can heal and move forward.
This month Florida State University remembers Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a weeklong commemoration. As we celebrate Dr. King’s legacy, this is a good time to reflect on the values that we hold at Florida State. We appreciate each member of our diverse community, and we have a longstanding tradition of respect for the dignity and worth of each person. With this as our foundation, we can express differing opinions and enjoy informed debate in a dynamic learning environment. We embrace the values of civility and ethical conduct and share in the responsibility to promote them.
As we begin a promising new year, let’s reaffirm our commitment to “Uphold the Garnet and Gold” by demonstrating respect for ourselves and others, taking responsibility for ourselves and those around us and reflecting the values of Florida State.
Sincerely,
John Thrasher
President
