FSU’s Careers in Student Affairs Month provides pathways for students interested in the profession

Your Career. Our Campus. Explore Student Affairs at FSU. (Division of Student Affairs)

Florida State University students, faculty and staff can explore the field of student affairs during Careers in Student Affairs Month this October. FSU Division of Student Affairs (DSA) has planned several events and networking opportunities to bring awareness to this national initiative which recognizes and celebrates the profession.

Student affairs encompasses all aspects of the student college experience — from housing and campus life, health and wellness, entertainment and engagement, to personal growth, leadership and more. Programs and services are developed and refined to assist students not only while at college, but to also prepare them for life after graduation.

“At Florida State, we’re dedicated to supporting student success both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for Student Affairs. “We’re honored to help students navigate this pivotal time in their lives and we will always strive to enhance their quality of life while at FSU.”

Students interested in learning more about student affairs are encouraged to participate in the month-long celebration. Undergraduates and graduate students can make one-on-one connections with leaders on campus and discuss potential job paths.

“This year, we’re offering a ‘backstage pass’ so students can connect and discover new possibilities with professionals in the field,” said Zduy Chu, associate vice president for DSA. “The field of student affairs is continuously changing as our students’ needs change.”

DSA has prepared several development opportunities such as job shadowing and access to free online resources. Additionally, students can hear from three university vice presidents, as well as FSU alumni and now the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators president, at the “Pathways to Leadership in Higher Education” panel presentation.
