Student Athletes work hard for success on the field and in the classroom, but which one takes priority when a professional sports team calls them up before they reach graduation? In this episode of Issues in Education, FSU President Eric Barron and WFSU-TV’s Suzanne Smith talk with James Ramsey, an FSU Baseball player who had to make that decision. He had to choose between playing for the Minnesota Twins organization and finishing his Finance degree at Florida State. Also joining us is Caryn Beck-Dudley, Dean of the FSU College of Business and Mike Martin, Head Coach of FSU’s Baseball team. They talk about the challenges facing student athletes and the Academic and Athletic Departments that support them. Dr. Barron also discusses his creation of an accountability plan for Florida’s Universities and why he feels it is necessary at this time.
