In this episode of Issues in Education, Florida State University President Eric Barron explores FSU’s role with the new Oil Spill Academic Task Force. Florida State was selected to coordinate the work of the task force, which includes 14 other public and private universities in the state. Dr. Barron talks with task force members Felicia Coleman, director of the FSU Marine Lab, and Eric Chassignet, director of the Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies Center. The discussion explores the potential spill impacts on marine life, environmental habitats, fishing industry and other areas. Dr. Barron also discusses how FSU researchers have already affected the discussions about the oil spill and cleanup as well as the long tradition FSU has had in the study of the Gulf underwater environment and the need for more research and more research dollars on the subject.
