Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) at Florida State University has been reaccredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS), the premier leader in setting the benchmark for the full range of professional counseling services on college and university campuses worldwide.

“Whether supporting students through counseling and therapy, assisting them during crises or trauma, or providing education and resources, I am deeply proud of our team’s commitment to emotional well-being,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for Student Affairs. “Counseling & Psychological Services upholds FSU’s dedication to wellness, and meeting all IACS re-accreditation criteria reflects the standards of a top-ranked public university.”

IACS found that FSU offers a high standard of competent and reliable mental health professional services to its student community. The accreditation process involved detailed documentation, a comprehensive site visit evaluation and multiple peer reviews in five areas: relationships within the college/university community, counseling and clinical services, ethical standards, personnel and resources/infrastructure. Approval by IACS was also dependent upon evidence of continuing professional development as well as demonstration of excellence in counseling performance.

“It is important that, we at CAPS, hold ourselves to the highest standards to ensure quality service delivery to our students,” said CAPS Director Yvonne Langdon-Maduekwe. “Being reaccredited by IACS is an endeavor to hold ourselves accountable and uphold the values of the university and the counseling profession. We value this accreditation and the rigorous process it takes to be transparent in demonstrating the impactful work we are doing.”

The Counseling & Psychological Services accreditation is valid through April 2034.

Annie Patterson, IACS Executive Director, wrote to staff and said: “It is clear from the site visitors’ report, and feedback from your staff, administrators and campus partners, that the counseling center offers a well-regarded program. Congratulations on the high quality of counseling service operations for students at Florida State University.”
