FSU supporting students affected by off-campus apartment fire

Several Florida State University students have been impacted by a fire that occurred late Wednesday night at an off-campus apartment complex on Ocala Road.

Local fire and police officials responded quickly; however, the fire damaged one building and led to the evacuation of several others, resulting in the displacement of several FSU students. Members of the FSU Police Department and the FSU Division of Student Affairs also were on the scene through the night assisting FSU students.

Student Affairs staff are working with affected students to help provide temporary housing, basic needs, academic support and other campus services.

“We’re focused on making sure our students are safe and have what they need right now,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht.

Those who wish to support the affected students may contribute to the university’s existing Student Emergency Fund

The university will continue to monitor the situation and support students in need as recovery efforts continue.
