Florida State University recently held the Graduate Student Resource Fair, where approximately 250 new and returning students received guidance to be proactive in their journeys toward success.
Hosted by the Office of the Provost’s Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) and the FSU Career Center, the fair connected graduate students with more than 20 campus and community service providers and facilitated networking among students from various colleges and departments.
“One important measure of graduate student success is persistence — staying in school and finishing a degree,” said Emily Leventhal, director of FSU’s Graduate Resource Center. “What we know is that persistence isn’t just about being strong-willed; it’s affected by the communities that graduate students are integrated within — their academic programs, professional networks within their disciplines and personal communities. The annual GSRC Resource Fair allows graduate students to build new ties to the FSU community and gives them tools to support themselves across their journey.”

The event is designed for FSU students at various stages of their graduate studies, offering opportunities for networking, community engagement, and access to resources.
Anna Williams, a Master of Social Work and MBA student, said the tables helped her learn about scholarships, grants and research opportunities.
The event also featured the Career Center’s Professional Photo Booth and Clothing Closet, which was available at no cost to give graduate students the opportunity to prepare for their professional post-graduate endeavors.

“I was very interested in learning more about the different professional advancement options within the school,” said Janie Inscore, doctoral student in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences Counseling and School Psychology combined Ph.D. program. “I was also excited about the clothing closet that they offer — the Dress for Success Program seems beneficial for students who need to dress professionally. It’s been useful to see all these resources on campus where we can get support.”
The event, originating from the FSU Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) entitled “Enhancing Doctoral Education at FSU,” is designed to advance graduate students’ scholarly engagement, foster career preparedness, and strengthen teaching competencies.
