Frazier, a two-time FSU alumnus, has served as dean since 2019. He was made a fellow in ICfAD’s mentoring program in 2008 and has been active in the organization ever since.

James Frazier, dean of Florida State University’s College of Fine Arts, has been appointed president of the International Council for Arts Deans (ICfAD), a global network of administrators that fosters professional development and the exchange of ideas among leaders in higher education.

“James Frazier has become a crucial leader at Florida State,” said FSU Provost Jim Clark. “He has enjoyed exciting and distinguished careers as an artist, teacher and leader. This new role will allow FSU to share the wealth of experience and wisdom with the entire arts-in-higher education community.”

Frazier, a two-time FSU alumnus, has served as dean since 2019. He was made a fellow in ICfAD’s mentoring program in 2008 and has been active in the organization ever since.

“Dean Frazier is an extraordinary leader who has served ICfAD with outstanding dedication over many years,” said Nancy Usher, outgoing ICfAD president. “As an ICfAD member, board member and officer on the board’s executive committee, he will powerfully lead our beloved organization into the future with wisdom, an innovative spirit and a steady hand as president.”

Frazier’s journey with FSU began over 30 years ago as an undergraduate work-study student in Strozier Library. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 1991 and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance in 1994 from FSU.

His choreography has been presented at numerous universities, the Kennedy Center, the National Museum and the Carter Barron Amphitheater. He is a past recipient of the Virginia Commission for the Arts Choreographic Fellowship and was commissioned to create a new ballet for the Richmond Ballet Company in 2009.

“It is an incredible honor to be appointed as the president of the International Council for Arts Deans,” Frazier said. “This organization has been pivotal in my professional journey, introducing me to a vibrant and inspirational community of supportive and dedicated arts leaders. I am excited to continue the legacy of creative visioning and collaboration, and I look forward to working with my esteemed colleagues to advance the arts in higher education globally.”
