The Art in the Library Program at Florida State University Libraries presents an art exhibition celebrating 200 years of Tallahassee history from the perspective of university students.

The exhibition, “200 Years of Tallahassee: A View from Florida State,” will be held on the third floor of the Robert Manning Strozier Library through December commemorating Tallahassee’s Bicentennial. There will be a reception for the exhibition from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, with food provided for those in attendance.

The exhibit will depict the history of Tallahassee and showcase art created by FSU students celebrating the university’s culture. The displayed works will include digitally edited photographs and dynamic paintings.

“From the beginning, we knew we wanted to highlight the special relationship that has long existed between Florida State and the Capital City, and we think this show highlights that through the eyes of our current student body,” said Leah Sherman, visual and performing arts librarian, chair of Art in the Library and organizer of this event.

There also will be an interactive digital component where visitors can add pictures of their favorite locations on campus to be a part of the exhibition. Visitors can participate by scanning QR codes alongside the artworks hung on the third floor of the Strozier Library.

“We hope viewers will appreciate these various perspectives when they visit the gallery and that they will also participate in this show by submitting their memories of FSU and Tallahassee through our digital exhibition,” Sherman said.

After experiencing “200 Years of Tallahassee,” visitors are encouraged to explore “The Artists of FSU Libraries,” created by FSU Libraries employees on the main floor of Dirac Library which will remain on display for the rest of the year.
