Florida State University offers a top-tier education, consistently ranked among the nation’s best, at a cost that’s significantly lower than peer institutions. FSU is the most affordable among Top 25 public universities in the country for out-of-state students.
FSU will increase its Out-of-State Fee and Out-of-State Financial Aid Fee for the first time since September 2011. All other Fees and basic Tuition and Fees continue unchanged since Fall 2013.
Why are these increases necessary?
- The out-of-state fee increase will allow FSU to maintain and enhance high-quality academic offerings, innovative research, and outstanding student services, ensuring all students continue to benefit from an exceptional learning environment.
- Out-of-state fees have not increased since 2011, while costs of instruction and operations have risen. This adjustment enables FSU to stay competitive with other leading universities while continuing to attract outstanding students nationwide and globally.
How is the university authorized to increase these fees?
On June 18, 2025, the Florida Board of Governors voted to allow state universities to increase the Out-of-State Fee and the Out-of-State Financial Aid Fee assessed on non-resident students by the allowed 10 percent. The reasoning behind the authorization can be found on the Florida Board of Governors website. The Florida Board of Governors strictly regulates fee adjustments, ensuring that increases are reasonable and directly tied to student benefit, quality, and institutional sustainability.
FSU remains an affordable option for out-of-state students.
Even with the 10% increase, FSU’s Out-of-State Fee remains approximately 30% lower than the national average for undergraduates and about 15% lower than the average for graduate programs, preserving exceptional affordability.
