Florida State University will celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its 37th annual MLK Week.
MLK Week aims to bring the FSU and Tallahassee communities together to reflect on the past and support one another to create social justice and advocate for the civil rights of all. This year’s theme “United We Stand” highlights how the FSU community can come together to make a positive impact for all.
FSU’s MLK Week will take place Tuesday, Jan. 14, through Saturday, Jan. 25. All events are free and open to the public.
“This year’s theme, ‘United We Stand,’ embodies our commitment to unity and positive change,” said Felicia Williams, director of Student Engagement. “We are honored to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Florida State and look forward to a week of inspiring events, thought-provoking discussions and community engagement as we come together to honor his legacy and work towards a brighter future for all.”

The evening begins with a film screening of “Kemba,” based on the true story of panelist member Kemba Smith Pradia. After the screening, a discussion of the criminal justice system will be led by Pradia, College of Law Dean Glenda Thornton and members of the FSU NAACP, the Innocence Project of Florida and FSU Counseling and Psychological Services.

“Memories of a Living King” hosted by FSU’s Civil Rights Institute

Florida State University’s Civil Rights Institute will host the second annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration “Memories of A Living King.” This year’s event honors the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a blend of art, performance and community engagement, with the following objectives: Memorialize Dr. King’s contributions to the global community, educate and demonstrate the American civil rights movement through the arts and garner broad community input into the strategic direction of the FSU Civil Rights Institute.
