Lifelong learners who love to explore the world through classes and activities tailored to their needs have a wealth of options to choose from this fall through Florida State University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, or OLLI at FSU.
“A Showcase of Classes and Activities,” featuring brief, engaging course descriptions from all instructors, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at the Turnbull Conference Center. The public is invited and parking is provided.
“The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at FSU is an exciting, challenging, scholarly program tailored for adults who love to learn in a stress-free environment where there are no tests, no grades and no homework,” Executive Director Debra Herman said. “Each year OLLI offers hundreds of intellectually stimulating non-credit classes, lectures, clubs, local and international travel and special events. There are no educational prerequisites, and lifelong learners from around the Tallahassee and Panama City areas are welcome to join.”

More than 40 courses and a wealth of activities will be offered, starting in late September. The fall semester, which ends in mid-November, offers 1-, 2-, 3- and 6-week classes in-person on the FSU campus and Westminster Oaks retirement community, as well as other locations, or via Zoom, which allows students to attend classes remotely.
Students can select from a broad range of areas, including art, science, health, policy, politics and government, economics, religion, languages, history through the ages, current events, topics of local, regional, national and international interest, technology, genealogy, writing and storytelling and nature.
A small sampling of class topics include: “The Great Stone Face: The Art of Buster Keaton;” “Qi Gong: Holistic Wellness;” “Digestive Health: Gentle Chair Yoga;” “Elizabeth the First;” and “Writing for Impact.”
In addition to classes, OLLI at FSU offers one-time lectures and a range of activities, socials, clubs, field trips and travel.
Registration for membership and fall semester classes and activities begins Sept.18. New members qualify for a free class.
