Florida State University’s College of Fine Arts and the Department of Art Education have announced a new fully online Master of Arts program in arts administration, launching in fall 2026. 

Home to the nation’s oldest arts administration program, FSU has long been an innovator in the field. By combining rigorous coursework with close collaboration with FSU’s Askew School of Public Administration and Policy as well as its world-class arts programs, the program offers a wealth of experiential learning opportunities and the ability for students to design a framework for their degree that fits their unique professional goals. 

“The online MA in arts administration is designed to serve the rising generation of leaders in the arts no matter where they are, helping them reach the next level in their professions and advancing the skills they need to make a strong and lasting impact on the industry and in their communities,” said Trevor Meagher, assistant professor and director of the new program. “We’re incredibly excited to welcome our first cohort of online arts administration master’s students this fall.” 

This new online program was designed with working professionals in mind, offering students the opportunity to study with FSU’s world-class faculty while continuing their work and furthering their careers in museums, orchestras, theaters or other arts institutions throughout Florida and around the world. 

Courses in this interdisciplinary program build the essential skills for tomorrow’s arts leaders, covering cultural policy, development and grant writing, leadership, financial management and more. 

Applications for the program’s inaugural class are now open, and prospective students are encouraged to apply by Feb. 1, 2026.

Florida State University recognized international and domestic participants of the Fulbright Program during a reception Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Longmire Building. 

Founded in 1946, the Fulbright Program is one of the most widely recognized international academic exchange programs. It aims to increase mutual understanding and support friendly and peaceful relations between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The U.S. government currently partners with more than 160 countries worldwide. 

FSU has participated in the Fulbright Program since 1951 and has been among the nation’s top producers of both faculty and student awards in recent years. The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recognized Florida State as a top-producing institution of U.S. Fulbright Scholars earlier this year.  

For the 2025-2026 cycle, three current and former FSU students earned scholarships through the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program to conduct research in the U.K., Colombia and Argentina. In addition, four FSU faculty members will travel to teach and conduct research abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program in Ireland, Taiwan, Hungary and India.  

On campus, 13 foreign students and scholars from places like Indonesia, Armenia and Uruguay are currently studying or conducting research at FSU through the Foreign Fulbright Program. Twelve students are here through the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, and one researcher is here through the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. 

Steve McDowell, FSU’s assistant provost for International Initiatives, presided over the event. FSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs James Clark delivered welcoming remarks.

During his time at FSU, Official completed a capstone project evaluating the Florida Department of Transportation’s Employee Development Program, which aimed to improve recruitment and career development within the department.

Official also served as a Florida Gubernatorial Fellow, organizing the inaugural Transportation Day at the Capitol to highlight the Florida Department of Transportation’s work. In addition, he interned at the US Department of Transportation, contributing to policy development for Domestic Employee Teleworking Overseas as a response to a presidential executive order.

Official currently works as a Capital City Fellow for the government of the District of Columbia.

Why did you choose to attend Florida State University?

My decision to attend Florida State University was guided by a thoughtful evaluation of its academic reputation, particularly the esteemed Master of Public Administration program. This program is one of the most prominent in Florida and is recognized internationally for cultivating dedicated public servants. The program’s illustrious alumni and the Askew School graduates have contributed significantly across various echelons of public service, from local city councils to state legislatures. 

What unique opportunities did FSU’s location provide?

FSU’s strategic location in Florida’s capital presents a unique convergence of academic pursuit and practical engagement in the heart of the state’s political landscape. It offered me the chance to actively participate in the 2023 Florida Legislative session as a Legislative Intern, an experience that few institutions can provide. The proximity to the Florida House of Representatives, the Florida Senate and the central offices of numerous state agencies is not just a convenience— it is a gateway to a world of opportunities where theory meets practice and purpose. 

Can you describe a significant academic achievement during your time at FSU?

Among the milestones I have reached during my academic journey at Florida State University, the one that resonates with a profound sense of accomplishment is the successful completion of my capstone project: “An Evaluation of the Florida Department of Transportation’s Employee Development Program for Recruitment and Career Development.” This scholarly endeavor was not just an academic requirement but a culmination of my immersive experiences. These experiences began in the career centers and extended through my tenure as an intern with the Strategic Development Financial and Administrative Services Team and later as a distinguished Florida Gubernatorial Fellow. 

How did you contribute to the community during your time at FSU?

During my tenure at Florida State University, I served as a Florida Gubernatorial Fellow, a role that allowed me to merge academic theory with civic engagement. One of my proudest achievements was orchestrating the inaugural Transportation Day at the Capitol. This initiative enabled me to highlight the Department of Transportation’s essential work, which is crucial for maintaining Florida as a pioneer in road safety. 

What impact did your journey at FSU have on your professional development?

In my pursuit of a Master of Public Administration at Florida State University, I have approached every opportunity to expand my own knowledge and experience while giving back to the communities that have shaped me. My journey at FSU has been guided by a conviction to excel genuinely, which was encouraged by my professors in graduate school. To be a successful public servant, I learned that it is essential to gather as much institutional knowledge as possible, as the best decisions are guided by the lessons we learn from the past. Moreover, the challenging coursework and immersive projects at FSU have equipped me with the critical, analytical and leadership abilities necessary for the field of public service.

A Florida State University research team received a nearly quarter-million-dollar grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to help Southeast Florida advance local action on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The team includes Department of Urban and Regional Planning Associate Professors Tisha Holmes and Kerry Fang and Askew School of Public Administration and Policy Associate Professor Tian Tang.

“This project offers us an opportunity to shape the future of the Southeast Florida region as one that is resilient, healthier, economically robust and fairer,” Fang said. “We will improve public health, bolster economic resilience and create high-quality jobs for low-income and disadvantaged communities — all while mitigating climate change.”

The team received $222,412 from Miami-Dade County through the Southeast Florida Climate Change Compact, a partnership between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties. The compact is developing regional climate action plans with strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region.

The research team’s role is to ensure that these strategies positively affect low-income and disadvantaged communities (LIDACs).

They will work with local governments and stakeholders to assess the potential impacts that greenhouse gas emissions measures have on the disadvantaged communities in Southeast Florida. These could include energy savings, reduction in air pollution, impacts on health and workforce development.

“The FSU team’s tasks are particularly important because the low-income and disadvantaged communities that are most vulnerable to climate change impacts have been left behind by many climate policies,” Tang shared.

These action plans cover 109 municipalities within the four counties and the Miccosukee and Seminole Tribal Government jurisdictions, a region of nearly 6.2 million people.

This project has three phases:

1. Preliminary LIDAC Benefits Analysis: This phase maps LIDACs and identifies the benefits of GHG reduction measures for the LIDACs.
2. Comprehensive LIDAC Benefits Analysis: Building on Phase I, this phase conducts a detailed assessment of the impacts of GHG reduction measures on co-pollutants, public health, economic benefits and environmental resilience.
3. Workforce Planning Analysis: This phase examines labor shortages, assesses job impacts and identifies opportunities for creating high-quality jobs induced by the GHG reduction measures.

“I am impressed with this project’s ongoing commitment to extensive expert and stakeholder engagement as they develop a Climate Action Plan that is technically rigorous and responsive to the needs of LIDAC communities,” Holmes said. “Our work will support the development and eventual implementation of greenhouse gas reduction strategies that can enhance the health, environmental, social and economic well-being of communities who often bear the disproportionate burdens of climate change.”
