New and returning Florida State University students can expect a warm welcome and nearly two weeks of events and experiences to kick off the fall semester. “Welcome FSU”  begins Monday, Aug. 17, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 29.

Through “Welcome FSU,” students can explore the numerous clubs and organizations, fraternities and sororities and intramural sports and other opportunities offered at Florida State. The university’s official welcome at the start of each semester, “Welcome FSU” features social, well-being, cultural and academic activities designed to help students connect with the FSU community.

“We want students to feel at home as soon as they arrive on campus and immediately know they belong,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for Student Affairs. “The events and programs during ‘Welcome FSU’ are designed to showcase the many ways students can get involved, build connections, form friendships and introduce students to all that FSU offers.”

New and returning Florida State University students are invited to participate in “Welcome FSU” summer, a series of events that kick off Friday, June 19, and continue through Saturday, June 27. The program highlights opportunities for students to get involved, build community and learn about campus resources.

Featuring social, well-being and academic activities, “Welcome FSU” serves as the university’s official welcome and start to each semester. Through events and activities, students can connect with one another and explore all FSU has to offer.

“No matter what semester a student arrives at Florida State, we want them to realize they are now part of an incredibly supportive community that cares about their well-being as well as their academic journey,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for Student Affairs. “Our activities and programs offer a way to help students integrate and explore what FSU has to offer them.”

Each semester, the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) coordinates a series of activities and experiences through “Welcome FSU” to help students explore new opportunities and to meet others. They can learn about student organizations, fraternities, sororities, intramural sports, as well as the many resources offered at FSU to help them navigate collegiate life successfully.

As a new academic year begins, Florida State University is set to welcome thousands of new and returning students to campus. In addition to helping students prepare for the fall semester, the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) is providing a series of events and experiences to help them meet new people and explore new opportunities.

“Welcome FSU” kicks off Monday, Aug. 18, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 30.

Serving as the official launch for each semester, “Welcome FSU” highlights campus happenings and shares ways to get involved, academic and well-being resources and how to make FSU your home community. Through “Welcome FSU,” students learn about the numerous clubs and organizations, departments, fraternities and sororities and intramural sports offered at Florida State.

New this year, is “Ready For,” an extension of DSA’s year-long “Hello FSU!” campaign. “Ready For” will share guidance and tips on how students can prepare for a variety of FSU experiences. From getting ready for the first week of class to attending an FSU Athletics event, students can stop by the “Ready For” tent to receive information and fun giveaways throughout the fall semester.

“Being an FSU student can be an exciting adventure, but sometimes it can also be overwhelming and challenging,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for Student Affairs. “We want students to know we see them; we support them and are here for them. We hope they’ll feel welcomed and well prepared while at FSU.”

New and returning students can connect and get to know Florida State University this summer through “Welcome FSU,” a series of engaging events that kick off Friday, June 20, through Saturday, June 28. These programs and experiences focus on social, well-being and academic activities and serve as the official welcome each semester.

Throughout the “Welcome FSU” kick-off, students can learn about the more than 700 student organizations, seven student government agencies, 54 fraternities and sororities and over 40 intramural sports offered at FSU.

Florida State University will greet an outstanding group of incoming freshmen this fall as the new academic year begins Monday, Aug. 26.

The Class of 2028 joins the Florida State family as the university continues to build upon an excellent record of student success. FSU’s latest graduation and retention rates set school records last year: 75 percent of FSU students graduated in four years, and 96 percent of freshmen returned for their sophomore year.

FSU received 79,400 applications for about 6,000 spots in its first-year class. The students admitted this year continue to rank among the most academically distinguished in the university’s history, with an average GPA of 4.4, a combined SAT score of 1390 and an ACT composite score of 31.

The admitted class includes students from all 50 states, all 67 Florida counties and 48 countries. Outside of Florida, the top five states for newly admitted students are Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Texas and Illinois.

Twenty-one percent of admitted students are among the first in their families to attend college or university. The five most popular majors for incoming freshmen are business, engineering, biological science, exploratory and chemistry/biochemistry.

Other notable items for the upcoming academic year include:

• The university’s graduate programs will enroll about 3,000 new students this fall.  The university received over 18,500 applications, which is the third-highest number ever for graduate applications. FSU’s graduate enrollment is now close to 10,000 students across all programs.
• FSU hired more than 200 new faculty for the second consecutive year.
• This year, 6,707 students will live in one of FSU’s 18 on-campus residence halls. University Housing offers a variety of living styles for undergraduate and graduate students.
• The Presidential Scholars Program — the premier undergraduate merit scholarship at FSU — will welcome its largest cohort of first-year students in history with 60 students joining the program this fall, increasing from 48 in last year’s class.
• The university’s competitive Honors Program is up to more than 750 students, well above last year’s first-year cohort of 600.
• Welcome FSU is offering an array of events and activities to kick off the fall semester through Friday, Aug. 30. These events are a great way for students to learn about campus resources, ways to get involved and how to make FSU and Tallahassee home.
• The FSU football team opens its season at the 2024 Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland, against Georgia Tech at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug 24.

As Florida State University’s summer Session B classes begin, new and returning students can connect and get to know campus with “Welcome FSU,” a series of events and experiences that kick off Thursday, June 20, through Sunday, June 30.

Serving as the official welcome each semester, “Welcome FSU” highlights events and programs that focus on social, well-being, cultural and academic activities for all students at FSU.

“The many scheduled events and programs help students learn about ways to get involved and connected based on interests and offers resources on how to make FSU and Tallahassee their home,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for Student Affairs. “We want our students to feel a sense of community and belonging immediately, and ‘Welcome FSU’ helps introduce them to the incredible experiences our university has to offer.”

Throughout the “Welcome FSU” kick-off, students can learn more about the 650 student organizations, seven student government agencies, 54 fraternities and sororities and more than 40 intramural sports offered at FSU. “Welcome FSU” supports the Division of Student Affairs’ year-round “Hello FSU!” campaign that works with campus partners to highlight key campus events, programs, activities and services for undergraduate students:

• The Weekly Top 5 – A curated collection of the week’s biggest events, programs, activities and deadlines. (Debuts every Monday throughout the academic year on #HelloFSU social media and at hello.fsu.edu.)
• How to FSU – Connects students with how-to resources and online guides to help navigate various campus processes.
• Success Tips – Identifies resources and provides life management tips to help students succeed in and out of the classroom.
• Spotlight Stories – Special feature stories on programs, services and people from around campus.
• ICYMI – In Case You Missed It provides an extra reminder for key events or important actions.
