Institute of Politics speaker series kicks off new season Oct. 7

The Institute of Politics at Florida State University (IOP@FSU) will kick off its flagship speaker series Thursday, Oct. 7, with a talk by Christina Reynolds, the vice president of communications for EMILY’s List, a political action committee devoted to increasing the number of pro-choice women in elected office.

Reynolds’ talk will be the first in the Strengthening American Democracy speaker series. The series, which debuted last year as the “Celebrating Civility Speaker Series,” will adopt a new theme each year to reflect the current political climate, said IOP Director Hans Hassell.

The Strengthening American Democracy speaker series will run throughout the 2021-2022 academic year and focus on generating awareness of the principles of democracy and the responsibility of citizens to support and strengthen the democratic process.

Reynolds’ virtual presentation – “Overcoming the Challenges Women Face in Running for Office” – will take place at 6:30 p.m. ET Thursday, Oct. 7. Interested attendees may register at https://fla.st/KG4M9INW.

Hassell said he’s excited to have Reynolds kick off the new season.

“Her experiences have equipped her with valuable political insight, allowing her to attest to the challenges women face in the electoral arena and present evidence-based, effective strategies to overcome them,” he said. “We look forward to building upon her remarks as we host other thought leaders with a wide range of backgrounds and varied expertise in the coming year.”
