A Message from Provost Sally McRorie to International Students Regarding Federal Immigration Guidelines

This message to all international students has been approved by Dr. Sally McRorie, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Dear FSU Student,

I truly hope you are doing well during these difficult times. You likely have heard the recent news about studying as an international student at FSU. I am reaching out to you in order to provide some preliminary information about the federal immigration guidelines announced by Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) on Monday, July 6, 2020. This regulatory guidance states that international students with F-1 VISA status must be enrolled in “in-person” class or classes for the Fall semester. FSU is actively working with departments to try and ensure our valued international students remain enrolled here. Institutions across the country were presented with this information at the same time, and this regulation does change the status we have been able to operate under this Spring and Summer.

In the 24-hours since this announcement was released nationally, representatives from the FSU Center for Global Engagement, Graduate School, Undergraduate Studies, Registrar’s Office, Office of the Provost, and other key individuals have met to discuss the implications. We are actively working with our academic programs across campus to determine possible course schedules that will best help our international students meet these new regulations.

At this time it will be important for you to review your class schedule, your personal plans and academic goals for the Fall semester. Our Fall class schedule is currently undergoing changes and you will have an opportunity to change your schedule when registration reopens on July 16.

Know that our goal is for all our international students to continue their studies at FSU, without disruption. Please continue to monitor your email for additional updates that will be disseminated shortly including a FAQ (“frequently asked questions“) that will further explain the implications and steps you will need to take.

Please know that we value you as a member of our FSU community!

Best,

Sally McRorie
Provost and Executive Vice President
