Albrecht-Schmitt is a chemist focusing on the study of radioactive materials.

He has worked with some of the most difficult elements on the periodic table including californium, berkelium and einsteinium.  He is the director of the Center for Actinide Science and Technology, a Florida State research center supported by the U.S. Department of Energy.
