President Barron comments on veto of university ‘preeminence’ bill

On April 27, Florida Gov. Rick Scott vetoed a university “preeminence” bill that would have allowed for increased flexibility for public universities that meet certain benchmarks of accountability. In a statement emailed to faculty and staff, Florida State University President Eric J. Barron expressed his disappointment in the veto but vowed that “we will continue to be steadfast in our commitment to excellence.” Read his statement here.
