Florida State University Provost and Executive Vice President Lawrence G. Abele has appointed FSU’s Dean of Graduate Studies Dianne F. Harrison as the Vice President for Academic Quality and External Programs.
Harrison had been serving as dean of FSU’s Office of Graduate Studies since 2002, in addition to her duties since 2000 as associate vice president for Academic Affairs. Her newly created position increases to six the number of vice presidents on FSU’s administrative team.
“We all appreciate Dianne’s knowledge, creativity and energy,” said Abele. “She has a real talent for leadership and a natural ability to work with others.”
As the vice president for Academic Quality and External Programs, Harrison will be responsible for the Center for Professional Development, International Programs, Office of Distributed and Distance Learning, FSU’s Panama City campus, University Libraries and all accreditation activities.
In addition, she will continue her activities as university liaison to the National Research Council, as well as chairing the Quality Enhancement Reviews and serving as faculty athletic representative and member of the Athletic Board.
A member of the FSU faculty since 1976 — the same year she earned her doctorate in social work from Washington University — Harrison served from 1994 to 2000 as dean of the FSU School of Social Work, which rose through the rankings to become one of the best in the nation under her leadership. Before she became Social Work’s dean, Harrison directed that school’s doctoral program for seven years.
