Parents’ Weekend will welcome moms and dads to FSU

Thousands of parents will converge on Florida State University during the weekend of Friday, October 5, and Saturday, October 6, for the annual Parents’ Weekend. Numerous events throughout the weekend allow students to introduce their parents to the campus.

“Parents’ Weekend is that special time in fall when families can get better acquainted with the Florida State campus and enjoy the experience with their student,” said Mark Striffler, associate director of the Oglesby Student Union. “We have planned many exciting activities, from a picnic and a special performance by our Flying High Circus on Friday to our Tailgate Brunch Buffet on Saturday.”

The schedule of events includes:

Friday, October 5

  • 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.—”Art in Low Places”: Sidewalk Chalk Competition
  • 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.—Check-In and Registration at Oglesby Union
  • Noon-3:45 p.m.—Featured Faculty Sessions
  • Noon-4:00 p.m.—Educational Sessions, Programs and Activities
  • Noon-4:00 p.m.—”Capture the Moment”
  • 2:00-3:00 p.m.—Circus Open House
  • 2:00-3:00 p.m.—Parents’ Association Meeting in Conference Room 311B
  • 3:00 p.m.—Lawton Lecture: Walter Tschinkel, “My Life with Ants,” in Moore Auditorium
  • 4:45-5:00 p.m.—President’s Address to Parents in Moore Auditorium
  • 5:00-7:30 p.m.—Picnic on Union Green
  • 6:30-7:00 p.m.—Procession to Circus Tent
  • 7:00-8:30 p.m.—Circus and Pep Rally at Jack Haskin Circus Complex
  • 9:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m.—Late-Night Programming at the Oglesby Union and Student Life Center

Saturday, October 6

  • 6:30-7:15 a.m.—Late Registration for 5K Fun Run/Walk
  • 7:30-9:00 a.m.—5K Fun Run/Walk
  • 9:00 a.m.-Noon—Tailgate Brunch Buffet on Union Green
  • 3:30 p.m.—Kickoff: FSU vs. North Carolina State
