World Affairs Program Prepares for National Security Conference
Human trafficking, illegal arms trades, Israeli war crimes and Muslim fundamentalists in Russia are all hypothetical crises that the World Affairs Program at The Florida State University has been “solving” for its trip to the National Collegiate Security Conference (NCSC) next month.
The conference, which is a Model United Nations competition between colleges from across the country, will be held in Georgetown on Oct. 8. The World Affairs Program at Florida State took home second place nationally at last year’s event and is looking to place among the top colleges in the nation again.
The students have been practicing by creating similar events with Tallahassee Community College and the University of Florida at the Regional Training Conference.
“This was by far the most intense crisis I have ever experienced, and the participants showed a level of enthusiasm that is unprecedented in my experience with Model United Nations,” said James Hartman, assistant director of the World Affairs Program. “I could not be more thrilled to bring such excellent and dedicated delegates to NCSC this year.”
More than 40 Florida State students attended the training conference, and are eager for their trip to Washington D.C. to represent Florida State University at NCSC.
