02/15/2012 - How do children learn to read silently?
Researchers at the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) at Florida State University will tackle that paradox over the next four years. Funded by a $1.6 million grant from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the research arm of the U.S. Department of Education, a team headed by FCRR researcher Young-Suk Kim will examine a poorly understood area of literacy: the relationship between oral and silent reading, and how those skills, in turn, relate to reading comprehension.

A Florida State University researcher found that African American children tend to be diagnosed later in life for Autism than white children. Dr. Martell Teasley, an Associate Professor of Social Work at FSU, co-authored a research paper on the subject with two other professors.

Philanthropists Al and Judy Dunlap have pledged $5 Million dollars to help build an indoor practice facility for the Seminole Football Program. The facility will rival other indoor facilities at major universities across the nation.
