Sponsored by the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship (http://jmi.fsu.edu/), Florida State University is getting ready to host its first 3 Day Startup event.  The idea is simple: start a technology company over the course of three days. The event is designed to kickstart new student-run companies and build entrepreneurial capabilities in students and their university communities.

Florida State University is partnering with the local community for a new mentoring program aimed at helping roughly 200 disadvantaged youths throughout the Big Bend area. And the 1 Million Bones effort, which raises awareness about genocide, gets underway at FSU.

02/27/2012 - FSU Assistant Chemistry Professor wins prestigious award

Florida State University Assistant Chemistry Professor Michael Shatruk is the recipient the 2012 ExxonMobil Solid State Chemistry Faculty Fellowship.  Since 1979, the American Chemical Society has given the award to young scientists who have made great contributions to the discipline of solid-state chemistry and have the potential to emerge as leaders in the field.

There’s a growing trend among two-income families and increasing levels of job stress. Florida State University Management Professor Wayne Hochwarter surveyed more than 400 blue-collar and white-collar working couples to find out how well they're handling the stressful situation.

Students at Rickards High School got a special treat on Monday as Seven Days of Opening Nights hosted a master class featuring the Grammy award-winning artist Carolina Chocolate Drops. And down on Gaines Street, FSU’s Department of Art Education is busy painting the second annual Seven Days Mural masterpiece.

02/21/2012 - FSU celebrates the annual Black History Month and Mag Lab Open House

For the first time this year, FSU’s Center for Multicultural Affairs co-sponsored its Black History Month celebrations with the Department of Children and Family Services. And more than 5,000 people poured into FSU's National High Magnetic Field Laboratory for the 18th annual Mag Lab Open House.

02/20/2012 - FCRR receives $8.5 million dollar national grant for dyslexia research

The Florida Center for Reading Research is the nation’s premier research literacy organization. The center recently received an $8.5 million dollar grant from the National Institute of Health to continue its dyslexia research.

02/17/2012 - FSU graduates score big at Sundance Film Festival

Florida State University film graduates Adele Romanski and Lauren Miller landed distribution deals for their movies at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. LD Distribution purchased Romanski’s girl-centric thriller, ‘Black Rock’, for more than a million dollars and Miller’s comedy, ‘For A Good Time Call,’ was picked up by Focus Features for roughly two million dollars.

It’s fun for the whole family — and you’re sure to learn something new, too. The Open House kicks off at 10a.m. and ends at 3p.m.
