Katrina Boone, the director of field education for the FSU College of Social Work, has been appointed to a three-year term with the Council on Field Education, a group within the national Council of Social Work Education (CSWE).

“Field education is the signature pedagogy for social work education as established by the Council of Social Work Education,” Boone said. “Field education is the intersection between academia and the practice community.”

Boone will serve from July 2016 through June 2019 developing national policies to ensure that social work education continues to meet standards of practice and to support, inform and train field directors on the regional and national level. She has served in field education for 15 years and dedicates her time to making sure that students are provided compelling internship experiences.

“Professor Boone brings a strong commitment to social work students as she leads the field education team in our college,” said Jim Clark, dean of the College of Social Work. “This appointment to the CSWE council reflects the respect she has earned at the national level for her effective formation of all our social work professionals through the central experience of field education.”

Boone credits her nearly two decades of social work practice experience for significantly enhancing her ability to operate the field education program at Florida State.

“My experience in community-based agencies has allowed me to maintain and develop strong partnerships with agencies, programs and services around the state of Florida and on a national level,” Boone said.

The CSWE is a national nonprofit association of social work education programs, representing more than 2,000 members. The Council on Field Education is a council of the CSWE’s Commission on Educational Policy that advances the role of field education as the signature pedagogy for social work by promoting, collaborating with, recommending and distributing information to social work field education and related membership organizations.
