Lecture to focus on global perspective on fight against hunger
William D. Clay Jr., an international authority on food and nutrition and a visiting professor in Florida State University’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy and the College of Human Sciences, will present “A Global Perspective on the Fight Against Hunger and Malnutrition,” in a free, public lecture on March 30 at Florida State.
From 1987 to 2007, Clay worked with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome and directed the organization’s Nutrition Programs Service from 1995 to 2006. In that capacity, he was responsible for a wide range of activities, including national food and nutrition assessments, advocacy, nutrition information and education, policy formulation, program planning, training and materials development. Prior to joining the FAO, he worked in Africa for more than 10 years, starting as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Liberia and later as an associate director of the Peace Corps in Kenya and as a nutrition planner for the government of Botswana.
An FSU alumnus, Clay was recognized as a “Grad Made Good” in 2007 and received the College of Human Science’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2008. His lecture, sponsored by the Shepard and Ruth K. Broad International Lecture Series, will be held:
