International Bazaar: 'Celebrating World Cultures'

The Center for Global Engagement at Florida State University will hold its 15th Annual International Bazaar, “Celebrating World Cultures,” on March 27 at the Oglesby Union Ballrooms.

The goal of the bazaar is to create and foster cultural awareness and understanding among people from around the world. Last year, more than 45 student and community organizations participated in the event, each offering a unique look at their own culture.

Various campus and community organizations will provide recipes, wear traditional dress, and incorporate photos, instruments, and artifacts into their cultural displays. In addition, there will be four hours of cultural performances from more than 20 regions of the world, including songs, dance routines, poems and instrumental acts.

“For the Middle East Peace Association (MEPA), the bazaar not only is a chance to teach people about the Middle East, but a chance for people to learn how we all fit into the global community,” said Kathleen Johnson, vice president of MEPA. “It brings cultures to life, and makes what may seem foreign to some a very real and tangible experience.”

International Bazaar is open to the public, is free and is family friendly. Food sample plates costs $5 on the day of the event. For more information, please email anesic@admin.fsu.edu, call (850) 645-4793 or visit www.cge.fsu.edu to see photos and comments from last year’s event.
