FSU to break ground for second phase of Wildwood Hall residence facilities

Florida State University President Eric Barron is scheduled to lead a groundbreaking ceremony next week to mark the start of construction of Wildwood Hall Phase 2, a 117,000-square-foot residence facility that will house 276 students upon its scheduled completion in August 2012. The ceremony will take place:

Unlike more traditional residence halls on campus, Wildwood Phase 2 will be organized in two-bedroom apartments, with a bedroom for each student. Each apartment also will include a shared bathroom, living area and kitchen area.

The building also will house a student lounge, a TV lounge, and vending, laundry, storage and support areas, as well as administrative offices, a staff apartment and a staff lounge.

The facility will feature the collegiate Gothic architectural style that reflects the look of other recently constructed and renovated residence halls on the east side of the Florida State campus. Tallahassee-based Gilchrist Ross Crowe Architects designed Phase 2, and Culpepper Construction Co. is contracted to build it.

Wildwood Hall, Phase 1 opened in August 2007. It houses 706 students and is a two-building community at the corner of Varsity Drive and West Jefferson Street. Phase 1’s floor plan features four-person suites, semi-private baths, floor kitchens, laundry facilities, and study and recreation space.
