Retired BB&T CEO to discuss 'principled leadership'

John A. Allison, retired chairman and CEO of BB&T Corp., will discuss “Principled Leadership” in a free, public lecture on Feb. 25 at The Florida State University. BB&T is the 10th largest financial services holding company headquartered in the United States.

Allison began his service with BB&T in 1971 and managed a wide variety of responsibilities throughout the bank. He became president in 1987 and was elected chairman and CEO in 1989. During his tenure as chief executive officer from 1989-2008, BB&T grew from $4.5 billion to $152 billion in assets. He was recognized by the Harvard Business Review as one of the top 100 most successful CEOs in the world over the past decade.

The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy and the College of Business are hosting the lecture, which is sponsored by the BB&T Program of Free Enterprise Distinguished Lecture Series. The lecture will be held:
