Graham to discuss security in the aftermath of September 11
Sen. Bob Graham, a three-term U.S. senator and two-term governor of Florida, will discuss “Eight Years After 9/11 — Are We Safer?” in a free, public lecture on Feb. 9 at The Florida State University.
Graham is perhaps best known on the national level for his 10 years of service on the U.S. Senate’s Select Committee on Intelligence, including 18 months as chairman in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Following the release of the Joint Inquiry’s final report in July 2003, Graham became an outspoken advocate for reform of the nation’s intelligence services. In 2004, he published “Intelligence Matters: The CIA, the FBI, Saudi Arabia and the Failure of America’s War on Terror.” The book, which was revised and reissued in paperback in 2008, presents harsh judgments and lessons on national intelligence gleaned from the joint inquiry and from Graham’s analysis of the run-up to the Iraq war.
Graham served as governor of Florida from 1979 to 1987 and as senator from 1987 until 2005. His lecture, sponsored by the Shepard and Ruth K. Broad International Lecture Series in collaboration with the Human Rights and National Security in the 21st Century Lecture Series, will be held:
