Florida State will 'pass the torch' on Heritage Day 2010

The students of The Florida State University will pay tribute to former President T.K. Wetherell and new President Eric J. Barron at the Westcott Plaza on Feb. 17 when the university holds its annual Heritage Day celebration. This year’s festival, which is informal and student-centered, will include a brief ceremony of the passing of the torch from Wetherell, the first Florida State alum to be president, to Barron, the second.

Copeland and College streets will be closed for a short distance in front of the Westcott Gates to make room for tents providing hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts and soft drinks. Members of the Flying High Circus, the Marching Chiefs Pep Band and the College of Music’s steel drum ensemble, “Mas ‘n Steel,” will perform. The public is welcome to attend.
